Legislative Process
The process of passing a bill around to have it modified is how the legislature has to follow a process in lawmaking. The regular session starts on the first Monday of January each year.
In what ways is the legislative process guided by rule and laws?
- The Rules and Laws have to be bound by the Constitution. Therefore the Senate cannot create a law that says the all farmers have to own a red car. The Senate's power to create laws is derived from Article 1 Section 5 of the Constitution.
How does the legislative process differ at the national level and state level?
-National- Citizens of the United States are represented by the Congress. Every two years your district elects a representative, that is your U.S. Representative. You also have two elected officals which are your U.S. Senates.
-State- All states have their own legislature that deals with that states own problems. States have one State Senator and one State Representative.
Where in the legislative process do individuals get to exert their greatest influence?
- Simply the people have the right to vote for their representatives.
